Giffnock and Thornliebank nursery consultation
All published documents about our Giffnock and Thornliebank nursery consultation.
The proposal was to reduce the Giffnock nursery class back to 30 places in the morning and 30 places in the afternoon. A new nursery class would be created in Braidbar primary for 40 children in the morning and 40 in the afternoon.
Thornliebank is served by three council nurseries:
- Glen Family Centre
- Glenwood nursery
- Thornliebank nursery class
Glen Family Centre provides places for children within the local area but also from across East Renfrewshire because it caters for children with additional support needs. With our brand new Isobel Mair School in Newton Mearns we have increased provision for children aged 3 - 5 and for children from birth to three years old with complex additional support needs.
Since very young children with complex needs can now be included within the new Isobel Mair School and Family Centre, we can change the use of Glen Family Centre and increase the provision there for children from birth to three years from 15 at the moment to 47.
Glenwood nursery provides 80 places in the morning and 80 in the afternoon. This has included children from the Crookfur area who have started to access the new family centre at Isobel Mair school in Newton Mearns.
Thornliebank nursery class offers 20 places in the morning and 20 in the afternoon. It has capacity to increase that to 30 in the morning and 30 in the afternoon.
The consultation was carried out under the Schools Consultation ( Scotland) Act 2010.
Please note the consultation response paper published on the website on Wednesday 23 February 2012 contained a typographical error in paragraph 68. 'Carolside Nursery Class should have read 'Thornliebank Nursery Class'. This has now been rectified. Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
