Bins, recycling and rubbish

Grey non-recyclable waste bin

Find out what goes in your grey bin, how often it's collected and how to request a new or replacement bin.

How often is my grey bin collected?Grey bin

Your grey bin is collected every 3 weeks.

Please put your bin at the kerb by 7am on the collection day.

What goes in my grey bin?

Your grey bin is for waste that can't be recycled. Examples of waste that can't be recycled are:

  • plastic films
  • polystyrene
  • food contaminated cardboard and foil
  • bagged dog waste
  • cat litter
  • disposable nappies

Waste not in your grey bin

We'll only collect waste in your grey bin. For excess waste that doesn't fit in your grey bin, you can request a special uplift. You can also visit one of our household waste and recycling centres.

What happens to non-recyclable waste?

Waste that can't be recycled goes to a landfill site. This costs the council over £2 million last year. This money could be spent on other resources such as housing or education.

We estimated that around half of this waste could have been recycled.
