Primary school registration week

Does your child turn five-years-old between March 2017 and February 2018? Make sure you register them for primary school.
Registration for primary schools in East Renfrewshire will take place from Monday 16 January until Friday 20 January between 1.45pm and 3.30pm.
Parents and carers of children who will be five-years-old between March 2017 and February 2018 should apply to enrol in either the local denominational or non-denominational school at this time.
It is important that an application is made to register children at their local catchment area school in the first instance, even if you plan to make a placing request or to defer the place for another year.
We would ask you to also apply to register your child at the local catchment school, even if they will be educated privately.
A number of documents are required to be brought along for the application process, and it is important these are produced so that the application process runs as smoothly as possible.
Documents required are:
- Child's birth certificate
- Current Council Tax notice
- Roman Catholic baptismal certificate (if applicable)
- Mortgage statement or rental agreement for a period of at least one year
- Child benefit statement
- Driving licence, utility bill or bank statement can also be accepted if no longer in receipt of child benefit
- Proof that you no longer reside at another property which you still own
Our schools are amongst the best in Scotland and it's always exciting to welcome the next generation of pupils through the doors. It is important that parents and carers applying to register their child remember to bring along the necessary documentation on the day they go to their catchment school. If you forget then it will mean another trip to the school to complete the process. Our staff do an excellent job managing this process every year and we look forward to another successful registration application period, as some of our youngest residents start their educational journey.

Once all applications for pupils wishing to enrol at their local catchment schools, and any placing requests, have been received and processed parents will receive written confirmation in April advising of your child's place.
While most children attend their local school, parents can choose to apply for a place in another school within the area through a placing request.
Placing requests for the session beginning in August 2017 must be submitted by January 31.
Following a formal consultation on proposed changes to admissions arrangements at East Renfrewshire's non-denominational and Roman Catholic primary and secondary schools, a decision will be made at the Education Committee on December 20.
The recommendations being put to councillors are to approve the proposals, which would mean a change to current placing requests criteria. As the admissions arrangements may change, all placing requests for the session beginning in August 2017 will be dealt with following an outcome of this consultation using the criteria in place at this time.
