Volunteers wanted for vital Children's Hearings System role
Could you volunteer and be part of Scotland's unique care and justice system for children and young people?
Children's Hearings Scotland and East Renfrewshire's Area Support Team (AST) are looking to appoint a Panel Practice Advisor (PPA) to help lead and support East Renfrewshire's Children's Panel members.
The Children's Hearings System is Scotland's unique care and justice system for children and young people in need of care, protection and support. Children's Panel members are lay tribunal members who volunteer to sit on children's hearings.
The system is unique because it is unsalaried, lay tribunal members - Children's Panel members - who are the decision makers at children's hearings. They do this by carefully considering the needs, circumstances and best interests of the children and young people attending a hearing and making decisions accordingly.
There are 22 Area Support Teams across Scotland playing a critical role in the delivery and administration of the Children's Panel. These AST's act on behalf of the National Convener in recruiting, supporting and monitoring panel members.
PPA's play a critical role within AST's. They are responsible for selecting and recommending panel members for appointment to the National Convener. They also regularly observe panel member practice within children's hearings and contribute to practice development within their local area.
The position is voluntary with reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed. PPA's will be asked to commit to the equivalent of approximately two days per month.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to, and understanding of the ethos, values and principles of the Children's Hearings System as well as an understanding of the role of panel members.
Information packs and application forms can be found at Children's Hearing Scotland website.
