Home contents insurance

More information on the home contents insurance that the council provide to our tenants. An application is also available on this page.

East Renfrewshire Council strongly advises all tenants to take out Household Contents Insurance.

You can do this either through the Council or by making your own private arrangements. The Council offers a competitive pdf icon Contents Insurance Scheme [311kb] making it easy for you to insure your belongings.

You can apply for tenants' home contents insurance by completing an pdf icon application form [311kb]. Alternatively you can email Customer First or pick up a leaflet and application form from your nearest housing office for more details.

Many tenants believe that the Council automatically insure their furniture, belongings and decorations against fire, theft, vandalism or water damage such as burst pipes. This is not the case. Unfortunately some tenants only realise this after the damage has been done.

No one really likes paying insurance premiums until it is too late. In the event of flood, fire or theft it suddenly becomes very worthwhile, so don't delay and make sure you are covered with a suitable Home Contents Insurance Policy. It's worth it for the peace of mind.
