Bins, recycling and rubbish

Litter

You can report litter or litter bin problems online. It is quick and easy to do so and your report will be received by the Street Cleaning team immediately.

We need to know:

  • the location of the litter or litter bin
  • what type of litter e.g. dog faeces, packaging, organic materials
  • if it is a litter bin, does it need emptied or is it broken or missing?

You can also upload a photo of the littered area and this will allow the team to correctly identify the incident you are reporting and the severity of the situation.

Report litter

Know a place that needs a bin?

If you know of a place that you think could benefit from a litter bin, you can request this using the same report litter form.

I don't want to make an online request

If you do not want to use the online form, you can call Customer Services on 0141 577 3001 (Mon to Fri: 8.45am - 4.45pm). Or use our 24 hour Ring and Report helpline:

Enforcement

We work closely with Community Wardens and local businesses in order to tackle litter hot-spots. Community wardens will issue £50 Fixed Penalty Notices to people caught littering our streets.

In the event of non-payment the case will be referred to the Procurator Fiscal who have the power to impose a higher fine or take the matter to court where a fine of up to £2500 can be imposed.

Prevention

'Towards a Litter-free East Renfrewshire' is the anti-litter campaign that we operate in the area's primary schools. We also run regular litter picks with schools and community groups.

If you would like to run a campaign or arrange a litter pick, please get in touch.  We are happy to help and work in conjunction with community partners. Alternatively, register your event with Keep Scotland Beautiful, where you can request a free clean-up kit and other useful resources:
