Buying your council house

The right for eligible tenants to buy their council house ended on 31st July 2016.

The Right to Buy has ended

The Right to Buy was a Government run scheme that allowed some tenants to purchase the property that they rented from the Council. For eligible tenants the price of the property was offered at a price lower than the full market value. The right to buy ended on 31 July 2016.


The right for council tenants to buy their council house ended on 31 July 2016.  The legislation which ended the Right to Buy is the Housing (Scotland) Act 2014.
