There are currently no services affected by the weather.

Roads and gritting

The Council looks after the vast majority of local roads but the M77 from Malletsheugh towards Kilmarnock and the Glasgow Southern Orbital route A726 are looked after by the private contractors Scotland Transerve and Connect. In winter we treat 313km of roads which is around 65% of our network and is proportionally more than most Councils treat. The winter service aims to provide the best possible assistance but cannot guarantee that all roads will be free of snow and ice. If there is heavy snow or long spells of icy weather we will complete the priority routes and, only if we are able to, will we work through the ones that are left. We only divert our treatment priorities if we receive an instruction from Police Scotland.

Roads in East Renfrewshire are treated by priority:

  • Main roads
  • Main bus routes
  • 1 main access to schools
  • 1 main access to fire stations.

School closures

Parents should always assume their child's school will be open during bad weather unless informed otherwise.

In the event that any school was forced to close as a result of difficult weather conditions, we would immediately update that information on this page and on our social media channels.

We do not post messages stating schools are open as this would lead to concerns from parents on those days when this message did not appear.

Social work 

If you require to speak to a social worker urgently please call 0300 343 1505.

Repairs

If you require an emergency repair, please call the 24 hour repairs 'out of hours' repairs service on 08080 031 601 and for emergency gas repairs, please call 0800 046 1972.

Homelessness

If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness please call 0800 052 0180.

Roads and lighting

For roads and lighting faults including flooding, please call 0800 373 635 for emergencies. If this is not posing a risk to the public, please use our online forms to report a light fault or report a road or pavement fault.

Dangerous building

To report a dangerous building or structure, please call0141 577 3556. This number is for emergencies only.

In the case of an emergency registration situation please contact 07798 875 297 or contact Giffnock or Barrhead Police station.

Domestic abuse

East Renfrewshire Domestic Abuse Project can be contacted on 0141 876 9566 during the festive holidays.
