We want to ensure that our employees are supported to deliver excellent customer service and that we carry out our work in the most efficient way possible.

To deliver excellent council services such as teaching, support for older people and help for those looking for employment we need to have enough staff, with the right skills.

As a local council serving our local people we need to ensure we are making best use of our money. One of the ways we do this is by thinking of new ways we can deliver our services, like using technology to provide a wider range of services (e.g. paying for services online).

What the Council is doing to improve services:

The Council Tax team continually looks for ways to improve the efficiency of their service and maximize collection. A new supplier for Sheriff Officer Services was appointed in the second half of 2015/16 and as a result some very successful joint working is underway targeting, and securing large debts. A service review of both the Council Tax billing team and the debt recovery team has been undertaken. Reporting from the debt recovery team has been streamlined and the process to involve our Sheriff Officer in recovery activity is now more efficient. A number of changes have taken place within the Council Tax team, including software changes to simplify the process for reviewing discounts and exemptions. The Service as a whole continue to progress with modernisation of services, and we now have an online Housing benefit and Council Tax reduction application form available for residents.
