Festival of Colour returns to Rouken Glen Park

Time to celebrate diversity

Fest of Colour

Festival of Colour - the annual celebration- returns to Rouken Glen Park for its sixth year on Saturday 27 July.

This outdoor multicultural celebration aims to bring everyone together, regardless of class, status or colour.

Bright colourful powder is thrown at the event to cover everyone in the different colours of the rainbow and celebrate diversity with the whole family. The festival aims to create a vibrant atmosphere which reinforces that differences in social or economic status should not be a barrier in today's society.

I am thrilled that Festival of Colour is returning again this year to Rouken Glen Park after the success of previous years. East Renfrewshire is an amazingly diverse area which brings together people from a variety of different backgrounds and life experiences to live, work, learn and enjoy the local community. Festival of Colour promotes positive relations in the area, encouraging personal experiences and ideas to be shared - in the hope that new relationships can be formed. Councillor Paul O'Kane, Convener for Education and Equalities

Festival of Colour will run from 12pm until 4pm, with the colour throwing getting underway at 2.15pm by walking from the children's play area to the events area.

There will be fun activities on the day for all ages, including dancing, cricket sessions, henna hand painting, face painting, and a treasure hunt, as well as Punjabi street food and halal burgers.

The festival is organised by a consortium, including East Renfrewshire Faith Forum, East Renfrewshire Hindu Association, Diversity ER and the Council.

Entry to the event is free of charge and participants can just turn up on the day.

The coloured powder may stain, so participants wishing to take part are advised to wear old clothing.
