Preparing meals at home and shopping

Information about preparing meals and assistance with shopping.

Preparing meals

If you find if difficult to prepare a hot meal for yourself and you are able to use an oven or microwave you could look at buying ready meals.  Ready meals can be bought from any supermarket and only need heating up. You can find ready meals that cater for all your dietary needs, whether you are a vegetarian, have diabetes, or are on a low fat or salt diet.

If you are having problems preparing a hot meal for yourself and you are not able to use an oven or microwave safely, you may need help from a homecare worker:

Help with shopping

Most of the big supermarkets will help you shop - either by pushing you around the supermarket if you are using a wheelchair, or by collecting your groceries for you. You should contact the supermarkets direct to find out more.

Some supermarkets in East Renfrewshire offer online shopping. If you have a computer with internet access, you can go to their websites, choose your groceries, and have them delivered to your home.

Many local restaurants will deliver meals. Why not ask restaurants in your area.

Why not ask trusted friends and neighbours to collect shopping for you. You will find many will be happy to help and will be pleased to be asked.
