Environmental Health

Slaters (or woodlice)

Garden insects which can only survive in damp, usually dark conditions. You may see more of these in your house after a spell of warm weather as they seek out damper conditions. Treatment against this pest is not relevant or necessary as they die very soon after entering your house because it is too dry for them. You should check all cracks and crevices which are prone to the accumulation of rainwater and prolonged periods of dampness such as missing pointing in brickwork, choked gutters, unsealed window ledges etc.; these opening should be filled where possible to prevent further build-up of dampness. In any case you should seek advice from a general builder.
