Criminal justice social work services

About criminal justice social work services

Find out about the type of services the criminal justice social work team provide in East Renfrewshire.

Aim

Our aim is to improve community safety and public protection through targeting our resources to reduce the risk of offending and harm in local communities. To do this, we work in partnership with:

  • housing services
  • the Scottish Prison Service (PMS)
  • police
  • the Crown Office
  • the Procurator Fiscal Service
  • organisations in the voluntary sector

Services

Most services are provided locally and some are delivered with Inverclyde and Renfrewshire Councils. We provide services such as:

  • reports to courts, Procurator Fiscal and the Parole Board
  • supervise offenders using effective risk management plans to reduce reoffending
  • challenge offenders to understand the impact of their behaviour on their victims, families, themselves and the local community
  • unpaid work placements to benefit the local community
  • fiscal work orders
  • Throughcare, which helps prisoners return to the community
  • drug treatment and testing orders to reduce drug-related crime
  • social work to the Forensic Community Mental Health Team (NHS)
  • access to a range of group work including accredited programmes

Staff are provided with ongoing training and development and our work is regularly monitored and reviewed to ensure effectiveness and quality.
