In the most recent survey, 93 per cent of the residents asked, stated they were satisfied with East Renfrewshire as a place to live. It also showed 70 percent of residents rated their quality of life as eight out of ten or higher.

The feedback from the survey, which took in the views of 700 people, will help shape council services and how they will be delivered in the future.

The survey highlighted there had been a significant increase in the number of residents who prefer to use the council's web site to make contact. There was also strong interest in the web site's 'report it' function as well as applying for and booking services online. This reflects the council's aspirations to be a digitally confident and capable organisation, and a significant amount of efficiencies will continue to be generated through hosting a broad range of services online.

Positive feedback

People were especially positive about street lighting, street cleaning and wheeled bin collection. 78 per cent said the bin collection service was good (51 per cent) or very good (27 per cent).

High approval ratings were also given to the education service, parks and open spaces, Eastwood Park Theatre, arts, Customer First, libraries and recycling, with more than 90 per cent registering a satisfaction rate.

Residents were also asked for areas where council services can be improved. Roads and pavements were the issues of most importance to local people. Further areas highlighted as priorities for improvement include the availability of affordable before and after school care and the provision of more affordable and particular needs housing.

It's rewarding to see that so many of our residents have expressed a strong overall satisfaction about living in East Renfrewshire.

We carry out this survey because we want to hear what residents across the area think of East Renfrewshire. Engaging with locals gives us an invaluable insight into our community and what is important to our residents, and we use this feedback to constantly improve the services we offer. Thank you to everyone who responded for taking the time to share their views on council services. I'm pleased that overall the response to the Citizen's Panel survey has been very positive but I want to reassure our residents that we will address the areas where they want us to do more. I'd also like to thank all of our employees who go the extra mile and work hard to deliver high quality services year-on-year which keeps East Renfrewshire as one of the most desirable places to live in Scotland.
- East Renfrewshire Council Leader Jim Fletcher

The survey also revealed that:

  • Residents have positive perceptions of the council and its staff, with 77 per cent of respondents agreeing the council is a 'caring' organisation and more than three quarters thinking the council is 'trustworthy' and 'efficient'.
  • Most people felt a strong sense of belonging to their community. They were positive about the extent to which their community supports different groups - older people, children and young people and vulnerable adults.
