News and announcements

Nominations now open for two East Renfrewshire community councils

Barrhead Community Council and Crookfur, Greenfarm and Mearns Village Community Council are both seeking a number of new members.

Community Councils

Residents interested in shaping the future of their local area are being urged to get involved by becoming community councillors.

Community councils are a great way for people who care about their local area to get things done as they provide a direct link between local people and the council, NHS, police, fire service and other public bodies.

Community councillors have the opportunity to give their views on many issues that affect local communities, from new housing plans to alcohol licensing applications and crime.

Anyone aged 16 or over and on the electoral register can stand for election as a community councillor. Candidates are required to submit a personal statement of up to 250 words in support of their nomination and need a proposer and seconder who must all stay in the relevant neighbourhood area.

Nominations forms can be downloaded from Barrhead Community Council and Crookfur, Greenfarm and Mearns Village Community Council or are available from local libraries.

The deadline for nominations being submitted is Wednesday 1 November 2017 at 4.45pm.
