Official opening ceremony held for £30m Barrhead High

State-of-the-art facility is next chapter for school

Barrhead High opening

A ceremony to mark the official opening of the new £30m Barrhead High, in East Renfrewshire, was held today (Thursday January 11).

Councillor Paul O'Kane, East Renfrewshire Council's Convener for Education and Equalities, unveiled a commemorative plaque and the school's choir and band performed for invited guests, including local politicians.

The state-of-the-art school, which was part of the Scottish Futures Trust programme, was delivered by East Renfrewshire Council in partnership with hub West Scotland, the council's development partner.

It replaces the previous building, which had been in use for 46 years, and has been built on a site next to the old school.

It is an absolute privilege to perform the official opening for this wonderful new Barrhead High today. We are committed to delivering the very best education for all our children and young people and the state-of-the-art facilities now available at Barrhead High will certainly provide fabulous learning opportunities for all its pupils. It is without doubt a school that the pupils will be proud to be a part of and will provide a springboard for continuing to raise attainment levels across the board. Councillor Paul O'Kane
