Raising of the flag to mark Armed Forces Day 2018

East Renfrewshire Council headquarters hosted the annual Armed Forces Flag Raising on Monday 25 June.

Raising of the flag to mark Armed Forces Day 2018

Armed Forces Day is a national celebration designed to give people the opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community - from serving soldiers to service families and from veterans to cadets.

The flag raising ceremony was held at the park's pavilion to honour the contribution of our Armed Forces, past and present as part of a countrywide programme of events to celebrate and recognise our dedicated servicemen and women.

Provost Jim Fletcher welcomed guests, with Pipe Major Iain Grant, from 3rd Barrhead and District Pipe Band, also providing a fitting musical backdrop.

Provost Jim Fletcher said: "I am delighted to raise the flag for Armed Forces Day 2018. The flag raising event gives us the opportunity to show our support to those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces, raising awareness of their contribution. On behalf of everyone in East Renfrewshire it's important to thank every one of our service personnel for their bravery and heroism".

Guy Clark, Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire added: "It is a real privilege to be able to honour all servicemen and women on behalf of East Renfrewshire. It's important that the contribution of the Armed Forces is never forgotten and it was fantastic to once again be able to show our appreciation and recognition for the role played by all".
