Giffnock Community Council

Giffnock Community Council meets at 7:00 p.m., in Giffnock Library, Station Road, on the 3rd Monday of each month. (No meeting in August) Meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend.



In accordance with Clause 6.2.2 of the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils, I hereby give notice that an election is to be held for 20 members of Giffnock Community Council.

The neighbourhood areas and number of vacancies in each is as follows:-

Neighbourhood Areas / Vacancies

Giffnock South3 vacancies
Merrylea & Braidbar11 vacancies
Orchard Park6 vacancies

Persons wishing to stand for election must be resident in the community council area, aged 16 years or over and be named on the electoral register.

In addition to the foregoing eligibility requirements, the candidate, proposer and seconder must all stay in the relevant neighbourhood area. Self-nomination is not permitted.

As part of the nomination process candidates are required to submit a personal statement of up to a maximum of 250 words in support of their nomination. Copies of all nomination statements will be made publicly available.

To stand as a candidate, a valid nomination form must be submitted to Council Headquarters, Eastwood Park, Giffnock, G46 6UG.

Nomination forms are now available from the Council Headquarters, Eastwood Park, Giffnock Library or by contacting Vincent McCulloch, Community Council Liaison Officer, on 0141 577 4645

The deadline for the receipt of completed nomination forms is Wednesday 28th August 2019 at 4.45pm.

Should the number of validly nominated candidates exceed the number of vacancies in any or all of the neighbourhood areas, (subject to the total number of valid nominations being 10 or more) a poll shall be held in October 2019, in those neighbourhood areas. (Date to be confirmed)

Should the number of validly nominated candidates not exceed the number of vacancies in any or all of the neighbourhood areas, and the total number of validly nominated candidates is between 10 and 20, the said candidates will be declared to be elected with immediate effect and no poll shall be held.

Should the total number of candidates validly nominated be less than 10, no community council will be established at this time.
