WCRS events programme

Welcome to our 2019 events programme page where you will find details of our upcoming events. All Whitelee Countryside Ranger Service (WCRS) events are free to attend and take part and we try to provide a mix of children's, family and adult activities that appeal to various interests.

Printed copies of our 2019 events guide can be found in libraries in East Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire so please look out for them arriving and pick up your copy.

Boggy Beasties club

Book your kids in early for our free fun-filled 'Boggy Beasties' summer holiday club and keep them active through the summer! The club is aimed at 6+ year olds and runs every Wednesday from 10.30am - 12noon for 6 weeks during the summer holidays.

The theme for this years Boggy Beasties is nature and wildlife and each week we will be exploring these themes through games and activities.

Children can be left for some activities at/near the visitor centre but should otherwise be accompanied by an adult.

To book your places, please contact the WCRS:

Attend at least 5 of the 6 sessions and earn a 'Wildlife Champion' badge from the Scottish Countryside Rangers' Association.

Some weeks we'll be exploring new areas of the windfarm (away from the visitor centre), so please make sure to prepare for an outdoor adventure (e.g. check the activity and remember to bring outdoor clothing and go to the toilet first if not meeting at the visitor centre).

Places are limited and the club is popular so please complete an enrolment form and get it back to us as soon as you can.

Event booking - essential information

  • We would like to take photos during our events for use in promotional materials but you have a right to refuse. In accordance with general data protection regulations (GDPR) if we do wish to take photos we will request your permission and provide a photo consent form.
  • Please wear/bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. Prepare for changeable weather.
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • For cycle events please ensure bikes are well maintained and suitable for the terrain. Cycle helmets are mandatory on all WCRS cycle events.
  • Dogs are welcome on most events, but some may not be suitable for them. Please contact the rangers about bringing your dog to an event.
  • All published distances and finish times are approximate and subject to change.
  • Please aim to arrive at least 5 minutes before the published event start time.
  • If you book an event but then can't make it, please let us know ASAP so that we can fill your spaces.

Event times

We aim to start all events at the time advertised unless otherwise advised. Please aim to arrive 5 - 10 minutes before the event start time so that we can start promptly. Event finish times and distances are subject to change depending on conditions but the rangers will advise of any changes in advance.

Children

Children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian unless otherwise stated/agreed.

Dog friendly events

Guide dogs are of course always welcome on ranger events and some of the guided walks and other activities are 'Dog Friendly' and the rangers are happy for you to bring your dog along, but we ask that you keep them on the lead and/or under 'close control'. Some events will not be suitable for bringing dogs however and the rangers ask that you contact them to check if you can bring your dog. For further useful information on bringing your four-legged friend to Whitelee please go to the Related information section at the bottom of the page.

Personal Information & Photography

Data Protection Act 2018: The council will use the information you have supplied to us to manage events that we run and keep you informed of those events. We may also use your information to verify your identity where required, contact you by post, email or telephone and to maintain our records. The council will use this information because we need to do so to perform a task carried out in the public interest. The rangers may want to take photographs on their events to be used in marketing and promotional material. Before doing so they will consult all those participating and anyone willing to allow their photograph to be taken will be provided with a consent form. If you do not wish your photographs to be used, please let one of the rangers know.
