East Renfrewshire offers Gaelic Medium Primary Education (GMPE) provision at Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Thornliebank. The school welcomed children in Primary 1 from August 2023 and will expand over the coming years.

You can apply for your child to attend GMPE at Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Thornliebank for P1 starting in August 2025. Read our School Admissions page for details on how to apply.

Applications from outside of East Renfrewshire can be made using the Placing Request application process. Information about making a Placing Requests is available on our School Admissions page.

2023 Consultation on Establishing GMPS 

The Education Department received a request for an assessment of the need for Gaelic Medium Education in the local authority area on 27 October 2021. The department has now completed a full assessment in line with the Statutory Guidance on Gaelic Education. (PDF, 513 KB).

The Full Assessment Response recommends that the Education Department department take forward a learning provision for Gaelic Medium Primary Education for the beginning of school session 2023 / 2024.
