The upgrade works included improving the playing surface, lighting and fencing at the facility. The project forms part of our annual capital investment, which works to maintain our parks, facilities and public spaces, ensuring they are high quality and safe for everyone to use.
The pitch at Mearns Castle is used extensively by school pupils and sports clubs, but it is also one of the facilities which is available for public use, out with formal bookings, along with the pitches at Muirend, Woodfarm and Barrhead High.
Housing and Environment Convener, Councillor Danny Devlin said: 'The past 18 months has seen unprecedented investment in our parks, facilities and public spaces and I am delighted to see yet another completed project here at Mearns Castle. I'm sure everyone who takes to the field will be delighted with the results. We're committed to providing high quality facilities for residents and visitors to East Renfrewshire and the works that have taken place across 2021 and 2022 are a testament to that.'
Mearns Castle High Head Teacher Stuart Clark said: 'It's fantastic to see this facility upgraded to such a high standard. Our pupils are already benefiting from the improved pitch, which will support the school in delivering high-quality sport and physical activity sessions.'
