Continuing Care
Find out about continuing care and the eligibility criteria

To be eligible for continuing care in kinship care in Scotland, the young person you are caring for must be a 'looked after child' at the age of their 16th Birthday and planning to stay within the kinship household for the near future. Within East Renfrewshire we have made a commitment to match the continuing care allowance to the 16+ Scottish recommended allowance to promote continuity of care for young people. Continuing Care Allowances are also subject to financial assessment.
a 'looked-after child' is a child or young person subject to either:
- a Permanence Order
- a Compulsory Supervision Order or Interim Compulsory Supervision Order put in place by the Children's Hearing
- provided with accommodation by the local authority under section 25 of the Children (Scotland) Act 1995
