Support for Foster Carers

Find out about how we support our foster carers and training available

Fostering future

Fostering children and young people can be very rewarding as you watch them grow and flourish. We have a highly experienced team who will support and guide you in your fostering journey to help develop your skills, knowledge and experience.  We have an in depth understanding of fostering from the positives to the challenges, so you won't be alone.

We give support to foster carers through;

  • a dedicated supervising social worker who'll support you in your fostering role
  • monthly supervision for foster carers
  • support from education, health services and a range of other professionals
  • membership to the Fostering Network who provide independent advice, support and guidance to foster carers in Scotland

Support groups

Support groups are a great opportunity to build your network of support.

Our monthly support groups provide an opportunity to meet with other carers within East Renfrewshire.

We've organised guest speakers to cover various topics from finance towell being .  We encourage our foster carers to be fully involved in all aspects of the service.

Training

An important part of being a foster carer is building upon your essential skills and knowledge you bring to the role.  For this reason we have a comprehensive training programme available for our foster carers.

This contains a range of essential training you are expected to complete in addition to other learning opportunities that will enhance your skills.   We recognise this is crucial for providing quality and nurturing care to our children and young people.
