Red weather warning - Storm Eowyn

Some services to re-open over the weekend and all expected to return to normal from Monday

Red warning

Published: 23 January 2025 (UPDATED 24/1/25 at 4PM)

All our services are expected to return to normal from Monday 27 January.

Checks to buildings will be carried out to assess any issues caused by Storm Eowyn, which would allow our schools, nursery classes and family centres to open on Monday morning.

Eastwood HQ and Barrhead office buildings are also expected to re-open from Monday.

To report fallen trees on roads and pavements, call 0800 373 635. For trees fallen elsewhere, email parks@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk. For other urgent matters, call our Ring and Report line on 0800 013 0076. You can access all our emergency out of hours contact numbers here.

Further details about health and social care, bin collections, East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, and housing can be found below.

Bin collections

Green bins not collected due to the storm will be collected on Monday 27 January instead. There will be no brown bins collected on Monday 27 January, this includes any missed on Friday 24 January - they will be emptied again on their next scheduled collection day.

Barrhead and Greenhags recycling centres are expected to open as normal from Saturday 25 January.

Health and Social Care

Health and social care services usually delivered across the weekend are expected to return to normal throughout the weekend.  We will aim for full services resuming from Monday 27 January.

We appreciate the support from families and neighbours providing care for their loved ones and would ask, where possible, that this continues over the weekend to allow services to get back up-and-running.

East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure

It is expected that all facilities run by East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, which usually operate over the weekend, will open as normal from Saturday 25 January. If there are any issues with buildings, customers will be contacted directly to make them aware.

Housing

Any non-emergency housing repairs which were cancelled will be rearranged. If you are homeless and in need of emergency accommodation, please contact us by telephone between the hours of 8.45am and 3.55pm on 07443204403 or by calling 0800 811505 outside of these hours. Out of hours housing repairs can be reported by calling 0808 003 1601 and the Homelessness team can be contacted on 0800 052 0180.
