Household Waste Recycling Centre bookings - privacy notice

The personal information you give to us in relation to our bookings service and any other personal information we hold about you in this context will be processed by us (East Renfrewshire Council, Eastwood Park, Giffnock, G46 6UG) for the purposes of carrying out duties under legislation and the services we offer.

Your information is processed to allow us to process your service request to visit one of the household waste recycling centres. This also helps us carry out searches and requests of service. Your information may also be shared with other departments within the council and other organisations for the same purposes and also to check the information we have is accurate, prevent and / or investigate legislative requirements and maintain public health.

Other organisations could include:

• bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds
• other local authorities
• public sector agencies
• government departments
• regulatory and law enforcement bodies

We process your information in order to perform a task carried out in the public interest in terms of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994.

Without the correct information we may not be able to give advice in relation to your enquiry or carry out requested service.

Most of the information we hold about you will come from you as an individual. Some of the information may come from third-party sources including other local authorities. Such information includes:

• your name
• your address
• phone number
• email address
• car / van registration details

We'll hold your information from the end of the year it was provided for a period of one year. Your information will be destroyed under confidential conditions after this period.

Your information will be accessed by our staff who need to process your request and passed to the Waste Management Company under contract at our Greenhags Transfer Station and site attendants at Barrhead Household Waste and Recycling Centre. We also need to ensure proper administration of its funds so details will be checked internally for fraud prevention and verification purposes.

Information is also analysed internally in order to give management information and inform future service delivery. Your information may also be shared with other departments within the council, bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds, other councils, public sector agencies, governmental departments and other private companies or entities (such as waste management companies).

We also meet requests for specific information from other regulatory and law enforcement bodies where this is necessary and appropriate.

In general, we don't transfer personal information outside the UK but on the rare occasions we do we'll inform you. We'll only transfer information outside the UK when we're satisfied that the party that will handle the data and the country it's being processed in have adequate safeguards for personal privacy comparable to those which are in place in the UK.

We don't use profiling or automated decision-making for our bookings service.
