East Renfrewshire celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride
Flag raised at Eastwood HQ to mark Pride month
Published: 26 June 2023
The progress pride flag was raised at the Council's headquarters to mark LGBTQ+ Pride month.
LGBTQ+ Pride celebrates diverse sexualities and gender identities. It's an important recognition of the discrimination, violence, and exclusion that LGBTQ+ people have faced both historically, and to date. Pride promotes the visibility, rights, and dignity of all those in the community, as well as celebrating the progress made so far.
The flag was raised by Michael Archibald from the East Renfrewshire LGBT+ youth group.
Council Leader Owen O'Donnell said: 'It's great to see so much support in East Renfrewshire for the LGBTQ+ community. The raising of the progress pride flag symbolises diversity, acceptance and the pride we have in all of our local community, so it is fantastic to see it fly above our Eastwood Headquarters to mark this important month. I hope that wherever you are in East Renfrewshire you will feel a sense of togetherness - the spirit of what Pride is all about.'
