Each year, we award volunteer with the Provost Award to honour them for their dedication, outstanding service and the positive changes they make for others.

We're asking local people to come forward and nominate a community champion whose volunteering work positively impacts the community and the lives of East Renfrewshire residents.

Provost Mary Montague said: "We are lucky to have so many people across East Renfrewshire who quietly go the extra mile to help others in their community. East Renfrewshire's Provost Award is our annual opportunity to say thank you and recognise a local unsung hero. This year we are looking to pay tribute to a longstanding volunteer who continues to make an outstanding contribution and difference to the local area.

"I'm looking forward to sitting down with the judging panel and deliberating again this year so if you know of an individual who goes above and beyond to give back to East Renfrewshire, please take a few minutes to submit a nomination on the Council's website."

Barrhead resident Stan Esson was named as Citizen of the Year 2022 for his work with East Renfrewshire Foodbank in Lowndes Street.

Stan is a founding member of the foodbank, taking on the role of Warehouse Manager when it was set up in early 2013, dedicating many hours of his time each week sorting donations, organising the storerooms, keeping tallies of all goods - by hand and online, meeting clients and liaising with the Trussell Trust to ensure that everyone who accesses the foodbank gets what they need.

The final day for nominations is Sunday 5 November 2023. Nominees must live in East Renfrewshire and have volunteered in their local community for several years.
