Appeal a Scottish Welfare Fund decision

If you're unhappy with the decision of your Scottish Welfare Fund decision, you can ask us to look at it again.

Appeals

You must make your request in writing within 20 working days of the date of our original decision.

The appeal must include:

  • a reason for the request
  • a reference number and date of the original decision
  • details of any change in circumstances since the original application
  • your signature or your written permission if someone's making the appeal on your behalf

We can sometimes extend the 20 day time limit if there's a good reason why you couldn't make the appeal in that time.

What happens next?

We'll reply to a Crisis Grant appeal within 2 working days of getting it.

We'll reply to a Community Care Grant appeal within 15 days of getting it.

Someone who wasn't involved in the original application will review the appeal.

If you're still unhappy with our decision

If you're still unhappy you can ask the Scottish Public Service Ombudsman (SPSO) (opens new window) for an independent review. They're not part of the council and their service is free.

You must ask for the SPSO for an independent review within 1 month of our decision.
