Young people who need supported care will be aged 16 to 26 years and accessing throughcare or aftercare support from social work services and may feel that they would benefit from having a supported care placement. Young people may be leaving foster care, kinship care, or residential care.

Supported carers play an integral role in providing essential care and support to young people. You will help young people to develop their independence, help them build confidence, and to acquire the skills necessary for adult living through developing practical skills required for adult life, such as cooking, housekeeping and budgeting.

We know that moving on from being looked after can be a big step for our young people and supported care can provide a supportive transition into independent living.
