Archives and information governance


The archives are stored in the records store at Williamwood High School. We hold the historic records of several of our previous local authorities, and of various other local organisations of historical interest.

Access to the council archives is by appointment. If you are not sure exactly what you want to look at, but would like to learn more about the local area or to view our local studies collections held in our libraries, the heritage service can help:

You can also have a look at Portal to the Past. This contains a searchable database allowing you to access information about thousands of items in our collection including, maps, photographs, documents, museum objects and much more. Many items are available to view online, particularly our photograph collection.

I want to find out about old Barrhead Buildings

The Archives have prepared a list of the building plans from the Burgh of Barrhead from between 1894 and 1910. For details, follow the link on this page.

How do I get to the archives?

Access to the archives is by appointment only. The Council Records Manager will provide full details of where to go when your booking is confirmed. The archives are stored at Williamwood High School.
