Support for carers

Find out about support for carers.

Contact the Initial Contact team if you're in crisis or there's an emergency situation. You can also ask your doctor, health visitor or district nurse to contact HSCP for you.

Becoming a carer

Anyone of us can become a carer at any time. Caring for another person can be demanding and stressful and that's why every carer is entitled to information about their rights and the support that's available to them locally.

In East Renfrewshire there is a range of advice, information and support available to you, as a carer, and to the person you care for.

Where to start

Contact the East Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) Social Work Request for Assistance Service  if you or the person you care for are under 18.

If you want to know more about what support is available for adult carers your local carer centre is a good place to start.

Digital resources for carers

For online information, advice and support along with free access to an Emergency Planning App, go to the Carers UK Digital Resource for Carers website (opens new window).

Your unique access code, which you'll need to create an account, is: DGTL1835.

What to expect

Whether you contact East Renfrewshire HSCP or the Carers' Centre the first step will always be a good conversation. You'll be offered an opportunity to complete a Carer Support Plan to think about what's important to you, the impact of your caring role, what will help improve your life and what support you think is right for you, your family and the person you care for.

In East Renfrewshire we use a Carers' Eligibility Framework to ensure access to HSCP funding and services is transparent and fair.

You can also expect help with:

  • financial, legal and welfare rights
  • health and wellbeing
  • peer support groups
  • smart home technology
  • short breaks
  • carer grants
  • online resources and directories
  • information sessions and training
  • social and activity groups
