Newton Mearns masterplan

Find out about the development of a masterplan design for Newton Mearns Town Centre

We've commissioned a design team to develop a holistic and strategic masterplan design for Newton Mearns Town Centre as part of the Sustrans funded Places for Everyone Scheme which supports the design and construction of projects to improve opportunities for walking and cycling.

Previous consultations have taken place on the Balgray Connection, A77 Spaces for people and the Newton Mearns Local Action Plan. This project focuses on access to the town centre, local parks and key buildings in the town centre.

Project Discovery Boards

A series of discovery boards were used at the drop-in session held on the 23 March. These were used to stimulate discussion on how access could be improved and how the centre of Newton Mearns might evolve as our roads, green spaces and retail shopping adapt to future changes.

View the discovery boards and find out about the proposals open for discussion. (PDF) [3MB]

Please note: This document may not be fully accessible to all. If you wish to view the boards in person they will be on display in Newton Mearns Library until the end of April 2023, where you can add your comments.

Getting About Mearns Survey

We've also produced a short survey which will help us focus on issues that people feel are important and help us engage with a wide range of local opinions.

Complete the survey by 24 April 2023.

What Happens Next?

The design team are working on developing a masterplan for the area incorporating community feedback, which will be posted here in May. You'll be able to comment further on this. We'll then decide how elements of this plan can be taken forward as opportunities for funding arise.

More information on this project will be made available on this webpage in due course.
