Find out how to book a knowledge test.
Who can apply?
After submitting your taxi driver licence or a private hire driver licence application, applicants need to pass our driver knowledge test. This tests your knowledge of local streets and places within the East Renfrewshire Council area.
The test is paper will have 25 multiple choice questions. A pass mark of 50% is needed.
Drivers who fail to renew their taxi or private hire driver's licence within the 28-day grace period from licence expiry, will not need to re-sit the Knowledge test for a period of up 12 months from their previous licence expiry.
Fees
The knowledge test is £59.00.
This will be paid for as part of your taxi or private hire driver's licence application.

What happens next?
You must bring your UK driving licence to your Knowledge Test booking.
A Taxi or Private Hire Driver licence application being considered will not be granted until a knowledge test is passed.
